Here Kitty Kitty Ikat

THE print of the moment is hands down Ikat. Yes, some of you are saying, "I What?" Well, you will see it everywhere in a variety of sizes, color schemes, applications, etc. Ikat or Ikkat, is an Indonesian word referring to a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft fibers. Say what? What the heck are warp or weft fibers?  Well, if you want to go that deep then you will have to hear what I heard all growing up, "Go look it up." :-)

Anyhoo, the point is that ikat has elaborate, multicolored patterns typically. Ikat dyes into the threads before they are woven (tie-dye is after). Ok, enough of today's lesson...let's get to the good stuff.

Applied to chair. This weekend I found a good scrap of ikat fabric at one of my favorite
local stores, GDC. It is under consideration to replace the seat fabric on my antique chairs.
